    Capacitive Membrane Switch Operating Principle

    Duratouch capacitive switches detect touch through the displacement of an electrostatic field. When a user’s finger—or any conductive object—approaches the sensing electrode beneath the surface, the capacitance between the sensor and ground changes. This minute variation is continuously monitored by a capacitive controller IC, which interprets the signal as a touch event.
    Unlike resistive or mechanical systems, no physical pressure is required; even gloved operation or proximity sensing is possible with proper sensitivity calibration. The sensing field can penetrate overlays made of PET, polycarbonate, PMMA, or tempered glass, allowing design freedom and robust environmental protection.
